About me

I started in 2015 with one truck and a sore back.

I'm Alex. I've been a working mover in Toronto for ten years. I've packed glassware in every kind of apartment, carried pianos up walk-ups, and watched a lot of moving companies up close — the great ones and the ones I'd never let near my own stuff.

In 2023 I started writing it all down. The blog is what I wish someone had told me on day one. It's free, independent, and there's no popup asking for your email until the bottom of the page.

How I work

Three rules I won't break.

No sponsorships, ever

Companies I review do not pay to appear. I do not take affiliate commissions on movers. The reading list is the product.

I quote them as a customer

Every company in the rankings was contacted by me, posing as a regular customer with a regular move. No press kits, no pre-arranged crews.

I publish my mistakes

When I get something wrong — and I have — I update the post in public, with a date stamp and a note about what I missed.

Timeline

Ten years, in short.

2015

First job

Hired as a junior on an old 16-footer. Learned the lift, learned the language.

2018

First long-haul

Toronto to Halifax. Three days, two crews, one piano. I never looked at a moving quote the same way.

2021

1,000th move

Counted them on a spreadsheet. Started keeping notes — that's where the blog came from.

2023

Started writing

Friends kept asking the same questions. So I started answering them in public, on this site.

Press, collaborations, reader questions

I read every email.

Whether you're a reader with a moving question, a journalist writing a piece, or another mover who wants to compare notes — write to me.
